BIO

Craig Dalton is a conductor, pianist and educator based in Perth, Western Australia.

​

As a freelance conductor and keyboard player, Craig toured with productions of The Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins and Les Misérables, playing seasons in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Taipei, Auckland, Manila, Singapore, Guangzhou and Beijing. Other first-class Australian productions include Wicked, Legally Blonde, Jersey Boys, The Sound of Music and Aladdin.

Craig is a regular guest artist with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra and Perth Symphony Orchestra in both classical and crossover/pops settings, and has worked as a repetiteur for Opera Australia (South Pacific) and Victorian Opera (Sunday in the Park with George).

​

Craig is also Course Coordinator of the Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre) program at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) where he has worked since 2017.

​

In the educational setting, Craig was music director for WAAPA productions of Rock of Ages, Company, Sweet Charity and A Chorus Line. He also coordinates music studies for all music theatre majors and is the chief accompanist and repetiteur in music theatre at WAAPA.

​

Craig has a growing profile as an exciting and versatile conductor. In 2020, he was selected to participate in an international conducting workshop with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and is a member of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra’s Emerging Conductors program for 2021.

​

Craig’s upcoming projects include Love Actually in Concert with the Perth Symphony Orchestra, a concert with the Fremantle Symphony Orchestra, and WAAPA’s first musical to be performed at His Majesty’s Theatre Crazy For You.

​

Craig holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees from the University of Western Australia, and a Master of Music (Orchestral Conducting) degree from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati.
